The world is a scary place, huh? There are wars, arguments, battles, drama, fights, sadness, and fear. We’re full of anxious thoughts and everywhere we look we see our friends, neighbors and family members afraid. You don’t know what to do because you’re a kid and you don’t know how to help.
So, I have a question for you. Did you ever talk to God above?
When I was in 4th grade, the world was a very scary place. Wars were started in the desert regions of the world, American cities were burning at night, people yelled at each other on TV and children were starving in refugee camps in Africa. I remember there were nights I slept between my parents in their bed, just to feel safe from the terrifying world on my TV. Mom and Dad would let me crawl under the covers and tell me of times when they were scared as a kid. But, they also told me to have hope and faith. They told me the best thing I could do is talk to God above.
My mom taught my brother and me a song that we still have memorized to this day and I wanted to share it with you.
“Did you ever talk to God above?
Tell him that you need a friend to love.
Pray in Jesus’ name believing
That God answers prayer.
Have you told him all your cares and woes?
Every tiny little fear He knows.
You can know He’ll always hear
And He will answer prayer.
You can whisper in a crowd to Him.
You can cry when you’re alone to Him.
You don’t have to pray aloud to Him,
He knows your thoughts.
On a lofty mountain peak He’s there.
In a meadow by a stream He’s there.
Anywhere on earth you go, He’s there,
He’s been there from the start.
Find the answer in His Word, it’s true.
You’ll be strong because He walks with you.
By His faithfulness He’ll change you too,
God answers prayer.”
Did you hear what the song said about talking to God? Talking to God makes you not feel alone. You can talk to Him anywhere and at any time because He’s always there. When you were created, God was there. When you took your first steps and said your first words, God was there. On your first day of school, at the loss of your first tooth, God was there. He’s been there from the start. When you lost a friend, received a bad grade, or got into trouble on the playground, God was there. If God has always been there, He knows how scary your day is today. Every tiny little fear He knows. So, have you told Him all your cares and woes? Tell Him when you’re in a crowd at the mall, on the couch at home, lying awake in bed at night. He already knows your thoughts.
Make sure you talk to God above and tell Him everything. You’ll be stronger because He walks with you and He will answer your prayers.
My Mom and Dad taught my brother and me that God is our Friend and He wants us to feel safe. So the next time you’re afraid, talk to God above and tell Him that you need a friend to love. He’ll hear you and be the best friend that you need in our very scary world.
