Give Thanks and Remember

Have you heard the old church song, "Count Your Blessings"?

Thanksgiving is the time of year that we tend to do that the most. I think that may be why it is my favorite holiday. It forces me to stop and remember to count my blessings, name them one by one, count my blessings, see what God has done. I find I can't stop thinking about all the things I have to be thankful for.

I know there are those who can't say the same and I don't want to get so caught up in what I have that I forget what others don't.

As we spend time gathered around the table with our family this Thanksgiving let's remember and pray for those who are spending this day alone.

As we sit down to our tables full and overflowing with varieties of foods let's remember and pray for those who will go hungry tonight.

As we sit in our warm and comfortable homes let's remember and pray for those who are on the streets and have no way to keep warm on these cold winter nights.

As we play games and laugh together let's not forget those who are grieving, lost loved ones, and have no laughter left in them.

As we give thanks, let's also remember.

Allow us to see the ones hurting around us. Give us wisdom and discernment on what and how to give out of our abundance. Help us to be the smile they need, the touch they long for, the answer they prayed for, and the help they cried for. Help us always be thankful but never so focused on what we have that we miss the needs around us.

Bless those who are alone, hungry, cold, homeless, and grieving. Be with them and help them to feel your presence and peace. Show us what we can do to help, and when you do, help us to be bold, brave, and obedient.

In Your Son's name we pray,
