I had the wonderful opportunity to get to visit our Partner in Mexico, Foundation for His Ministry (FFHM)
, this month. I took two others from Bethel with me including Sarah Beckmann who has visited FFHM several times through Bethel GO Trips and serves on the Global Mobilization Team as well as Tristan Mailloux who serves on staff doing photography and videography work which he used on this trip to serve our Partner. We had the honor of traveling around with Janelle Keller (FFHM's Executive Director), Jill Smith, (FFHM's Director of Mexico Operations), and Doug Clark (a long-time supporter of FFHM also from Washington state).
It was a whirlwind trip that started with flying into San Diego and getting picked up by Janelle the next morning to drive across the border into Tijuana. There we got to see their newest ministry which is a home for teenage girls that were living in the government shelter. We got to have a tour of the home, meet the wonderful staff, and get to meet and learn about the girls in the home. We also met up with Jill and Doug there and spent the rest of our trip traveling as a group of six.
After sharing lunch at the home in Tijuana, we took off for FFHM's Baja Campus located in Vicente Guerrero. While there, we got to join in the staff's morning devotions, get a tour of the campus, and visit their other ministry sites. We were able to visit their daycare center that serves the community, Rafa's House which is their new halfway house for men, and Rancho de Cristo which is their rehab center for men.
We spent two nights at the Baja campus and then took off to drive back to Tijuana where we flew out to visit their campus in Oaxaca (wah-hah-kah). I was particularly excited to visit this campus as this is where we have sent the majority of our GO Teams from Bethel. We got in Saturday night in time to join them for church on Sunday morning. We then got to experience the local open-air market which is one of the longest running markets in the world. A highlight for all of us was getting to hear from the local missionaries through FFHM that serve throughout Oaxaca. Their goal is to have at least one missionary in each region of the state of Oaxaca. These missionaries are doing amazing and difficult work while serving Jesus faithfully. We also got to tour the campus which includes a children's home and school on-site.
Our trip came to an end as we flew back to Tijuana, drove across the border, and flew home from San Diego the next day.
I was very encouraged getting to visit our Partner and get to know their leadership and staff better. We have been grateful that their location is one we have been able to send teams to lately while our other Partner locations haven't been open due to Covid restrictions. We continue to plan trips to visit FFHM so if you are interested in getting to see their ministry firsthand, keep a lookout through the Bethel Global Outreach webpage
, newsletter, Facebook page, and trips site. You can learn more about FFHM by visiting their website ffhm.org and get to meet Janelle and Jill when they come to GlobalFest this May!
