On May 12 Pastor James preached on Colossians 2:6-7: So then just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught and overflowing with gratitude.
We learned what it means to 1) receive Christ Jesus as Lord, 2) how to be rooted, built up and established in our faith in him, and 3) to live a life of gratitude. Basically, how to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ. But how can you personally grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ here at Bethel Church?
Our Pathway provides practical steps for you to start this discipleship journey. Specifically, we have a new 10 week experience started in the fall called Rooted. The Rooted Experience helps us connect with God, connect with the church, and connect with our purpose.
The Rooted Experience is a 10 week small group experience with 5 days/week of bible reading and prayer, 3 experiences – a prayer experience, serve experience, and sharing your story experience. We cap off the 10 weeks with a celebration dinner.
This winter we did a Rooted Pilot, a trial with ~240 campus wide staff, ministry leaders, and elders. We were overwhelmed with a sense of God’s pleasure as we practiced the seven rhythms of discipleship: daily bible reading, prayer, serving the community, freedom from strongholds, sacrificial generosity, sharing your story, and celebration. We had three new people receive Christ Jesus as Lord, 2-3 more re-commit their lives to Jesus, and 7 people were baptized. In addition, 13 people shared stories of transformation as a result of practicing the 7 rhythms of discipleship – from broken to healed; freedom from bondage; from worry to trust. We even had a skeptic of Rooted become a champion of Rooted.
We invite you to participate in the Rooted Experience. We will offer it three time per year with limited registration. Registration for the fall Rooted Experience is open NOW on our website. Before you register, we are asking that you commit to the full 10 week experience. We understand you may have to miss 1-2 times, but to truly connect with God, the church and your purpose – we are asking you to set aside those 10 weeks. Come by the Connect Center after service if you have questions.
