Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth. John 3:18
She met us after church with a gift bag and a hug. We weren’t the close-like-family kind of friends and there was no special celebration on the calendar. This was an unexpected gift at a time when our family was adjusting to a newborn foster placement. As we opened the gift we discovered a beautiful handmade crib-sized baby quilt. We looked more closely at the stitching and found our baby girl’s name, artfully sewn within the pattern. A gift to this precious little one, affirming she was seen, loved and called by name. And not just by her foster family, but by her church family, by a woman who took the time to see, create and tangibly show love.
She was part of our Bethel Quilters community, a group with a rich tradition of blessing others with handmade quilts, sewn with skill and stitched with loving prayers. Maybe you’d like to know more?
Bethel Quilters: Whether you’ve never sewn, or you’re a master at creating quilts, we’d love to have you join us! We fellowship, share sewing techniques and serve others by creating handmade quilts.
Focus: All quilts are given to bless Bethel families in need as well as to several community non-profits. Last year we donated over 250 quilts! Our focus this fall is making patriotic quilts for the women at the Veteran’s home in Walla Walla. We will also make Christmas quilts for select nursing home residents who rarely get visitors. These emphases are in addition to our on-going partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Embrace Grace, You Medical, Mirror Ministries and several others.
Info: We meet downstairs in the Activity Center on select Saturdays and Mondays.
