Response to President Trump's Statement

posted by Bethel Communications | May 22, 2020

Bethel Family,

This afternoon President Trump addressed updated federal guidance on reopening houses of worship. In that announcement, he classified houses of worship as essential and urged governors to take action. As we wait on clarity in this area and for additional action steps, we will continue our preparations for regathering when safe to do so as explained by Jason.

This is an encouraging announcement but to be clear, it is not a directive. Until our Governor responds and clarity is provided for faith communities in Washington State, our situation and position has not changed. We will continue to pay close attention to all federal, state and local announcements and respond accordingly.

The CDC also is releasing guidelines for faith communities. We will review their recommendations regularly and begin preparing to implement the guidelines that are feasible, practical, and tailored to the needs of our church family and the communities we serve.

Please continue to pray for all of our leaders; national, state, local and church. Praise God that our ability to pray has never be suspended or quarantined. Join with us in prayer that we would represent Christ in all that we do and bring glory to the name of Jesus in every thought, decision, and action.

Let us also strive for unity despite the tensions we all feel. As Paul instructs us in Ephesians 4:1-3, "I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
