If parents of elementary-aged kids are looking for something to read together, Love Does for Kids might be a good choice. My family gathered to read it together this summer. It is full of engaging stories that point us toward ways we can love one another.
Pros: Fun, whimsical true stories from the Goff family and their adventures. These stories tie into Biblical truth that inspires a creative approach to showing love to others in our everyday lives.
Cons: Although the stories tie in a Biblical principle, it doesn't typically come back to a scripture reference or specific Bible story each time. Also, the Goff family has resources far above families in our community, so flying to Africa to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro is fun to imagine, but hard to relate to.
If you want to preview some of the stories, the YouVersion Bible app has a 3-day reading plan called "Live Love Does." It includes three stories from the book as well as scripture to accompany each story. You can check it out free and see if it's a good fit for your family.
