The other day while listening to Kris Langham on "Through the Word" he was talking about Luke Chapter 2. He said the following:
"Luke 2:41-45 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him.
Before you get mad at Mary & Joseph, apply this to yourself. It is possible for you or me to go to a religious event that's all about Jesus and somehow leave Jesus behind?"
Such a good question! How many of us have headed right into the Christmas season and realized at some point Jesus was missing in the midst of it. I can't count the times we were heading to a Christmas Eve service, fighting with the kids to get ready so we could get there on time, knowing if we were late we would never find a parking spot. Then sitting in the car with hungry kids, arguing with my husband because he didn't see the parking spot I so clearly pointed out (he swears I told him too late and he couldn't get into it in time with the cars behind him). Then after hiking in to the church from our mile away parking spot we can't find a spot to sit with enough seats so kids are sitting two to a chair, shoving each other and one is on my lap wiggling and driving me crazy and all I can think is, did I turn the oven for the prime rib off or is it still cooking? Am I the only one that has had a scenario like this? It's exhausting, distracting, and not at all what it was intended to be. I forgot the reason I was there. I left Jesus at home in a tiny manger lying in swaddling clothes under our Christmas tree and forgot to bring him(his spirit) with me.
As we head into the holidays, especially with the year we have had, many of us can be distracted. It's hard to keep Christ at the center of every day when everything around us is screaming chaos and is competing for our attention.
We want to make sure you and your family are keeping Christ in CHRISTmas. We have created a kit for you to take home that gives you a variety of easy crafts and activities that you will be able to use throughout the month that will keep you and your kids excited, expectant, and focused on Jesus.
