One of the many challenges of Covid has been our inability to minister in person to those in our community who are in need of care and compassion. Agencies have had to shift how volunteers can serve, and have struggled with the necessity to reduce events and activities to keep their clientele and staff healthy and safe.
This has been especially hard for families who include children or adults with special needs. These families can feel extra isolated and alone, leaving them to even feel unsupported by their church family.
Traditionally, one way we invest in these families is by hosting the Night to Shine Prom at Bethel on the Friday before Valentine’s Day. This year the Tim Tebow Foundation moved that event to online, and Bethel outreach decided if we couldn’t do it in person, we would not participate in this year’s event.
We love people with special needs who attend our Night to Shine Prom. We love their families and the friendships we have built in the past five years with them. We love our connection to the ARC and other agencies in town who care for people with disabilities. We love families in our church who parent and invest daily in the lives of these children and adults. We knew we had to DO SOMETHING in place of Night to Shine to maintain and continue those important connections.
Our outreach staff came together and planned an alternative, outside event in place of Night to Shine for 2021. We are excited to see Night to Shine return in person in 2022, but feel this alternative event is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to SERVE! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
