Show Notes

Today we are reading in 1 Corinthians 3 and see why Paul can’t call the Christians of Corinth ''spiritual'' people. Though they are believers in Christ, they continue to live to the flesh. Leaders who build the church will have their work judged by Christ to see if they have built it on the foundation of Christ and all human wisdom will be shown to be as worthless.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3

Hey everyone! Hope you are doing well! My name is Dwight Garrison and I am the Production Technologies Coordinator here at Bethel Church. I am truly honored and blessed to be spending time with you all today while we read in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3. So, let’s just jump right into it!

Paul starts addressing the issues to the Church of Corinth and why they are “immature” in their faith. Look at Verses 1 through 4:

1 “But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human?”

Wow. He did not ease into it. In Verse 2, he says “I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you are not ready for it.”

Think about that: when you feed an infant a steak, they might choke. They don’t understand that you have to chew. They don’t have teeth so they wouldn’t be able to process that food. Similar to faith, Paul knew that they were not ready for the intensity that faith is. They needed to grow and mature. With each stage of spiritual maturity, we should be expected to be tested by God to see if we’re ready for what’s next. And over time, circumstances will have a way of revealing themselves.

Continue on in Verse 10 and 11:

10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Receive the truth and don’t twist it around. Continue to live in the Spirit and take heed to the words of God. Build your foundation on the Lord. It’s already anchored, established, secured, strong, reliable, safe and everlasting. The knowledge of God as revealed in Christ, is the knowledge that all who are saved must have. When we receive that into our lives, we will re-create the image of Christ. God invites His children to receive, beside which all else is nothingness.

I know that this encourages me to continue to seek more wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the Lord for what’s ahead for the next generation to come.

Let’s pray ...
