What is Promotion Sunday? It is the first Sunday after school officially ends. When our kids are no longer considered their current grade and have been promoted to the new grade they will be going into this coming fall. At church they are considered to be in that new grade as of that Sunday, so all the kids get to do a giant game of "shuffle your buns". Kindergarteners are now 1st graders, 1st graders are now 2nd graders, so on and so forth, all the way up to our seniors who graduate that year! Congratulations Seniors!!!
This time can be pretty exciting, a little sad, and a whole lot of fun! For many of our servers they are saying goodbye to kids they have come to know over the years and that can be so hard but on the other hand it is so exciting to think about the new relationships that will be made, the memories that will be created, and the special moments they will have with these new kids coming in. The ups and down and amazing wonder of being a part of the next generation, what an honor to have a tiny fingerprint in their lives.
Besides grades, what changes?
Promotion Sunday is also the first Sunday of our Summer Program in the Kids Zone. Beginning on June 20th, things look a little different at church and we aren't just talking about their Sunday School classrooms. In the summer we like to start with 1st - 4th graders in Big Church with us. After worship they will be dismissed to go to their grades; 1st & 2nd graders will go to the Kids Auditorium and 3rd & 4th graders will go outside to the lawn by the church across from the Shop (on the west side of the church). Half way through they will trade places and the 1st & 2nd graders will get to go play outside while the 3rd & 4th graders go inside for the lesson. All 1st - 4th graders will end up back at the Kids Auditorium to be picked up.
As a parent, what do I need to know?
This will be new for all the kids this year so if you want to walk them out their first Sunday, you are more than welcome to. If you have questions, you can always contact firstname.lastname@example.org to clarify where your kids are going after being dismissed. We do ask that you please check your child in before your family heads into church on Sunday. You will get the regular three tags; Your child puts on one, will give the Sunday School Leader the second one and you will hang on to the one with the letters and numbers to pick them up afterward.
Here's to summer!
