Summer Under the Sun
June 20-26 (Pr. 4-7)

Chapter 4
Verse 13 states “Take hold of instruction; do not let go”. To take hold of something means being able to grasp it fully. What kind of things would take away from us fully embracing instruction?

Verse 18: Have you experienced this? How?

Chapter 5
Chapter 5 contains a father’s instructions on avoiding seduction and enjoying marriage.

In response to this chapter is there a tangible action step you can take? Is there something you should start doing? Is there something you should stop doing?

Chapter 6 -
In verses 17-19, the author is using a literary device to present a representation of things the Lord hates, with a particular emphasis on the last item.

Write out the list of things included. Circle the last item.

Spend a few minutes journaling and praying as you reflect on these verses. Ask God to show you where you can repent and how to walk in humility, seeking the things that please Him.

Chapter 7 -
Personal sin yields collateral damage. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? How does it apply to the topic of lust and/or adultery?

One of the ten commandments found simply says, “Do not commit adultery.”  (Exodus 20:14)

Jesus expands this teaching in Matthew 5: 27-28  -  “You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

How do you see these commands echoed in the wisdom of today’s reading? Spend a few minutes reflecting and listening to what God would have you apply from these scriptures.
